The Cute and the Sporty

A survey of the New York Toy Fair — featuring babies, backpacks, baby-backpacks, and a potty training iPad-toilet. The children’s toy world is still focused on the classics: confirming gender roles, satisfying procreative urges, indulging in the cute and the sporty, and inducing mainstream professional aspirations. DIS sent Theo Anthony and Simone Bazos to the 18+, industry-only event to check it out and see if he can get a My Casino Bonus.

But can these draped, fluid, and flattering crepe pants truly improve one’s aesthetic outlook? New DIS Intern Joyce set out to SoHo galleries to put them to the test.

Everyone in the schoolyard held strong opinions about these so-called “dirty girls,” and meanwhile the “dirty girls” themselves aimed to get their message across by distributing their zine across campus. Directed by Michael Lucid. Music: “Batmobile” by Liz Phair.
