May DIStrology from @Mercuryinmorgan: Avoid Being Eclipsed!

You’ve been eclipsed, and you’re going to be eclipsed again on May 9, Taurus, but your anthem this month is “Bitch Don’t Kill my Vibe,” because the moon is going to be a bish, but Mars and Mercury will move through your sign giving you clarity, energy, and motivation to hang in there while the eclipses make adjustments in your life. Parts of May will feel like an extended trip to the chiropractor, but remember that everything will be straightened out by the end of the month. Life can’t be that bad when the sun is in your sign because you get to be the center of attention, and the rest of the zodiac synchs up with your vibes. This will be especially apparent on May 7 when Mercury and Mars allow you to express your intentions loud and clear. April ended with an eclipse in Scorpio, exposing radioactive energy to your relationships with friends and lovers. Eclipses are unpredictable, so I can’t say whether you had a nasty breakup, or received a promise ring, but it’s certain that you felt the eclipse mutations in your relationships. In between the two eclipses you get a much needed chance to process the messages the universe is sending you, and the first two weeks of May will feel eerily calm in comparison to the last week of April. Taurus is the most stubborn sign of the zodiac, and you prefer chilling to changing, but flexibility is what will get you through this period of turbulence.

geminiThe first two weeks of May will upload slowly, and it will feel like a major technological downgrade to a Gemini who is used to the instant, refreshed lifestyle of an air sign on the go. But try to remember that it’s not always about the quantity of information that you receive, but the quality, and pay attention to the subliminal messages the universe is sending your way on the days leading up to the solar eclipse in Taurus on May 9. Your psychic radar is seriously stimulated by Mercury and Mars moving through your 12th house of otherworldly communication. Even your imaginary friends will be avoiding your texts for the first half of the month, but the feeling of isolation is only temporary, so enjoy this moment of silence. You’re not lonely, you’re just Zen. On May 15, Mercury enters Gemini, setting the universal pace back at your preferred level, and your social calendar will quickly be booked. Your phone will be blowing up by the weekend of May 18, and you’ll have so many opportunities for social activity making this weekend the most exciting of the month. If you were feeling stuck in a rut, this weekend you will discover a brand new path. On the full moon in Sagittarius of May 25, a lunar eclipse will end a cycle of eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius that began 2 1/2 years ago. The eclipse will peel back an outworn layer of reality where you’ve been living and allow you to welcome new vibes in to your life. Resolution will come suddenly for annoying, recurring issues that you’ve dealt with for the past 2 years. You can celebrate, because you won’t have to deal with another set of eclipses in your sign for 18 years!

cancerHope Springs (2012), a romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones follows the story of empty-nesters Kay and Arnold, who attempt to reignite the spark in their marriage after 30 years together by undergoing a week of intense counseling. This is your spring of hope, Cancer, and you should listen to your own counsel to reignite your life to better reflect your dreams and aspirations for the future. Wherever you feel you have not been living life to the fullest, make plans to expand and grow. The eclipse on May 9 falls in your 11th house of dreams and desires, and it will help you manifest your deepest wishes. You literally can’t go too far, because Jupiter will move in to Cancer in June giving you a huge boost of good luck that will make even your wildest dreams come true (fingers crossed!). Despite two eclipses, May will be a quiet month, and you’ll be happy to fantasize about the future in peace and quiet. Listen to your inner voice and find a place of serenity within. The eclipse in Sagittarius on May 25 falls in your 6th house of health and well being, and it will put your focus on matters of a very physical nature. If there are health matters you’ve been meaning to take care of, try to avoid the week of the eclipse, but schedule a trip to the acupuncturist, massage therapist, dentist, or doctor for the week afterwards. It’s time to make sure that your body is your party!

leo-2Two eclipses this month will keep you busy adjusting to new realities and possibilities for the future. On May 9, an eclipse in Taurus in your 10th house of career and public image has the power promote your professional ambitions to the next level. Because this is a new moon eclipses, you need to take charge of this opportunity and use it intentionally. Make the career moves you’ve been envisioning over the past several months now. Eclipses create hectic energy in the heavens that radiates down to earth, so make sure you’re on point in the office the week before and after May 9, the eclipse energy will be totally focused on your professional output and all eyes will be on you. Career will be the focus for the first two weeks of May, but after May 15, when Mercury shifts in to Gemini, your social life will begin to pick up, although you will keep your ambitions in mind- success is all about networking. On May 25, an eclipse in Sagittarius will get you in the mood for fun and adventure. Plan on putting aside your responsibilities this weekend, and do something totally wild!

virgoMay could be a confusing month for Spring romance. Neptune, the planet of illusions and romance is firmly settled in your 7th house of relationships, romanticizing the reality of any potential partner you meet. Neptune has a way of clouding your vision, making it hard to see your romantic match for who they truly are, even for a down-to-earth, seriously analytical Virgo. This month, Neptune makes several negative aspects that could provide an unsightly glimpse of reality. The key to avoiding trouble is to circumvent the fog of Neptune by being straightforward, honest, unambiguous and insistent on clear communications. The 7th house rules romantic partnership as well as business partnership, so you might be faced with a collaborator or a business partner who has dubious intentions. These transits can be positive, providing the catalyst for creativity and incredible imagination to come from love and business partnerships, but you must avoid being vague and wishy-washy. You do have a lucky day coming late in May. On May 28, Venus and Jupiter form a totality, lucky conjunction in your 10th house of career that will stimulate success in a major way, and I think you will have the kinks in your business partnerships ironed out by this date. Your mind will be ultra-stimulated all month long by the eclipse in Taurus on May 9, so try to find activities that provide an outlet for this intellectual energy. libra-2For better or for worse, there will be major changes in your love life this month as Uranus and Pluto create bump and grind through the heavens. It’s impossible for me to say whether you will be crying in ecstasy or in agony, but there’s a 99% chance of tears on May 21 when Uranus and Pluto’s aspect pushes for change in your love life, and disturbs your domicile. You could be moving in with someone you love and deepening a commitment OR moving out and moving on. The only thing certain is change. Libra is the sign of partnership, and you tend to focus on others, but the only consciousness you can truly control is your own, so I recommend spending energy on self-improvement this month. It’s not too late to start working on your summer bod! Neptune is in your 6th house of diet and fitness, and you’re dreaming of six-pack abs and a tightened, toned tush, but you need a little push to start doing the crunches and curls necessary to get the look. Your ruling planet Venus nudges Neptune on May 13, and this could be the push you need to kickstart your kickboxing class or plunge in to pilates. The week of May 21 will be hectic, but you can look forward to the last week of May when your ruling planet Venus and Jupiter have a walk to remember on May 28 that makes this whole week pure #bliss.

scorpio#PASSION is the key word for Scorpio in May. The month begins with Mars in sensual, stubborn, and sexy Taurus, sending you back and forth between arousal and rage. It’s possible the two will come together to form a super-sensual erotically stimulated experience. Last month, the eclipse in Scorpio sent your life into a state of flux and you probably felt a lack of control. On May 9, an eclipse in Taurus will sit directly opposite your Sun, inviting you to take charge. You have to ride the bull, or you will be gored. These two eclipses present an opportunity for you to make major changes in your external material universe as well as the world within, but you will have to #work for this transformation. The eclipse on May 9 falls in your 7th house of relationships, and you will be thinking about the significance of the “other”. This eclipse will strengthen relationships that are strong, satisfying, and powerful, and it will disband ones that are unbalanced and OVER. When an eclipse sets in, you feel the vibe instantly so you’ll know ASAP how your relationships have been eclipsed. You may feel burnt out by the time Mars moves in to Gemini at the end of the month, so give yourself a chance to relax, and try not to overheat.

sagittarius-2For nearly 3 years, a cycle of eclipses in Sagittarius and Gemini has made your life a roller coaster ride. Although you love that sense of freedom that comes with a sky-diver’s free fall into the future, you’ll be happy to learn that the eclipse in Sagittarius on May 25 will be the last in your sign for nearly 18 years and the trends in your life will seriously stabilize in the next few months. By now, you’ve mastered the sport of competitive eclipsing, and you’ll take first place with ease. This eclipse will mark the completion of a major cycle in your life; you might be completing a degree, getting ready for an exhibition, putting out an album, or seeing some kind of success for a project you’ve been working on over the past several years. The last two weeks of May and the beginning of June have totally awesome aspects that make romance practically unavoidable. Venus wanders star-struck through your 7th house of love and affection for the latter half of the month, and makes a series of exciting aspects that you are certain to feel with pleasure. On May 18, Uranus sends a psychic sext to Venus, introducing new romance for the uninvolved, and spicing things up for the shacked up Sagittarius. On May 28, Venus and Jupiter embrace in your 7th house, and this will be the luckiest day for love. The 7th house is also entangled with business partnerships, so if you need to meet with a collaborator about work you will do so together, the vibes today would be exceptionally positive. Fitness will be another focus this month as the moon will soulcycle its way over the Taurus sun, Mars, and Venus for a total solar eclipse on May 9 that will make you want to get on the elliptical. Taurus is the Moon’s favorite sign, and the new moon seeds a new cycle that continues for 2 1/2 years, so this eclipse would be a powerful time to make a commitment to fitness and health that you will be happy to keep far into the future. I heard a rumor that Equinox has an eclipse season special offer for new members who join while the moon is in Taurus. You can present my astrology column as proof that this offer might exist. Sagittarius is the sign of confrontation, and I recommend sports like wrestling and kick-boxing as a positive way to channel the desire for competitive contact out of your daily life. Outdoor sports like hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing are also well suited for the Sagittarian’s freedom and thrill-seeking soul.

capricorngifMars and Mercury are tripping through your 5th house of creative consciousness for the first two weeks of May, and their residency, along with the eclipse in Taurus on May 9 will open your mind to all the potential you have for creativity. If you are an artist, musician, or designer, this will be one of the most creative periods of the year, and the eclipse will mark the beginning of a new era in your continuum of creation. Your aesthetic is shifting in a new direction that feels fresh to death. May is the month of the Muse for Capricorn, and romance is likely to be the inspiration driving your creative force. Behind every great artist is a muse who matches their brilliance. A muse-artist relationship that develops right now has the potential to become a life-long romance based on mutual fascination. If this seems a little bit too deep for what’s actually going on in your reality, the focus in your chart might be centered around the Uranus-Pluto square that could make a change in your living situation necessary. The square will be exact on May 21, and there could be sudden and unexpected news around this date that makes changes at home impossible to avoid. Uranus and Pluto working together could produce a shocking turn of events, so be very open to change, flexibility is a requirement to surviving this transit.

Aquarius.(FAIRY.TAIL).full.116160Aquarians are usually so out there, but for the first two weeks of May you will be totally down here sorting out nagging matters on earth. You have to get the practical matters in order so you can indulge all of your weird and wild interests and make travel plans this summer. Late May and June promise to be seriously fun, exciting, and adventurous if you can get things in order now. A solar eclipse in Taurus on May 9 falls in your 4th house of home and family, and on this day Mars will be in opposition to Saturn, suggesting there will be a deep desire for change in your living situation, possibly stemming from an issue that relates to your work. A move closer to work, or somewhere with a more convenient commute would help you divide your energy more productively. Or maybe you need to sort out a sublet so you can make travel plans for summer. While this eclipse will keep you tied down, it seems like your energy will totally transcend physical and practical concerns for the rest of May. Venus moves in to your 5th house of romance for the last weeks of May and makes a series of shockingly awesome aspects that inspire love and affection. On May 18, your ruling planet Uranus sexts Venus, making this weekend feel totally spontaneous and romantic, a majorly welcomed change after the down-to-earth vibe earlier in the month. An eclipse in Sagittarius on May 25 ends a 3-year-old cycle of eclipses that has caused major shifts in your friend group. By now, you’ve figured out who you truly connect with, and this eclipse will cement the new bonds you’ve made based on shared interests and mutual dreaming. Jupiter and Venus come together on May 28, finishing out the month with a #blissful aspect that provides endless opportunities for summer love.

piscezYou’re feeling the #poetic and #inspirational vibes of Spring in the first two weeks of May, and the “Notes” on your iPhone will quickly be filled with all of the ideas storming through your brain. If you’re a poet or songwriter, the first two weeks of the month will be so lyrically rich, you might have a whole album by the eclipse in Taurus on May 9. You will be tempted to put the plans you develop into immediate action, but it’s better to let the brainstorm pass before you set sail. Talk to friends about your plans and bounce ideas off the people you trust before you make big decisions. You will be thinking a lot about your home, and what it means to you as Mars, Venus, and the Sun will move through your 4th house of home and family in the latter half of May. You have to put down strong roots in order to flourish, and now you will figure out where you truly want to plant yourself. If you’re totally happy where you live now, this would be an awesome time to start beautifying your home because you will be chilling hard and longing for a peaceful place to relax. On May 25, an eclipse in Sagittarius is the culmination of a 2 1/2 year moon cycle that has been all about building your career and your public persona. Whether it’s a promotion, a move to a new company, or a dramatic entrance on to the international pop music scene, this eclipse will create major, real, and dramatic changes.

ariezUranus is normally an “impersonal” planet. Its movement through the sky has huge, revolutionary meaning for society and culture, but normally creates little impact on an individual human being. HOWEVER, Uranus is in the sign of Aries right now, and it is about to aspect Pluto in a way that could create major disturbances in your life. Uranus and Pluto make a series of seven squares between 2012 and 2015, a transit that is seen as a major turning point for society and collective consciousness. Uranus in Aries puts you in the center of the collective shift. Uranus will occupy your 1st house of self-identity and ego, while Pluto in Capricorn occupies your 10th house of career and public persona for the next two years. Every Aries will identify with Amanda Bynes (born April 3, 1986), who is totally living through the Uranus-Pluto square on Twitter right now. You might feel like spending $15,000 on an Xtreme makeover, piercing your face in unusual places, and scaring your neighbor’s children. It’s OK, because you do have hot friends who will always have your back. Seriously, we will forgive you for any crazy behavior between May 9-May 28. Afterwards, it’s another story. Putting the disruption caused by the Uranus Pluto square aside, this will be a busy month for you. Mercury and Venus will move through your 3rd house of communication, and your schedule will be booked with meetings, tele-conferences, and professional texting.

Toward a Low Key Voting System Where Votes Are Actually Considered | Adrian Massey

While reading A Very Short Introduction to Game Theory, I came across the following passage, “If you want people to vote, we need to move to a more decentralized system in which every vote really does count enough to outweigh the lack of enthusiasm for voting which so many people obviously feel…Simply repeating the slogan that ‘every vote counts’ isn’t ever going to work, because it isn’t true.” I was jarred. Haraway posits that not only should we name the Anthropocene carefully (including the terms Capitalocene and Plantationocene within its narrative) but that we should also be using this crucial ecological timeframe to move towards a dynamically multi-species, “sym-chtonic“, sym-poietic future: the Chthulucene.… [read more »]
