Baby Worshipper: An Example of Religious Socialization The amazing one-minute video below shows Ava Grace, a child of about two, at Ignited Church in Lakeland, Florida. The clip beautifully illustrates the socialization of children into particular kinds of worship. With hand motions, body movements, and facial expressions, this child is doing a wonderful job learning the culturally-specific rules guiding the performance of devotion. – Lisa Wade, Ph.D. Courtesy of Sociological Images
A DISfunction Takes Miami
The GHE20 G0TH1K Crew: Venus X, Physical Therapy, and $hayne Oliver
This past week, DIS invaded Miami Beach Will(ow) Smith style in order to celebrate the impossibly dense and relentlessly stimulating Art Basel and NADA Art fairs. Thanks to a partnership with OHWOW, DIS took over Tommy Lee’s Hot Topic-inspired Rokbar on Collins Ave. from Thursday through early Sunday, joined by an attractive cast of reality television would-nots: DJ Total Freedom, Gang Gang Dance’s Brian Degraw, NguzuNguzu’s Daniel Pineda, Seychelle Allah, Azizaman, our own Fatima Al Qadiri, and the GHE20 G0TH1K crew: Physical Therapy, Venus X, and $hayne. We may have frightened a few PR girls and mistook a cracked out street performer for Lady Gaga, but with our co-hosts Ryan Trecartin, David Benjamin Sherry, and A-Ron the Downtown Don, we’re pretty sure we held the highlight of all the hysteria hostage in our hands.
